FAQ

When you come to me for your initial consultation, which could take up to 90 minutes, (subsequent treatment will take around 40-60 minutes) I will listen and ask about your problems, compile a full case history of your symptoms, as well as asking for information about your general health lifestyle, any medications work and diet. The information you provide will be completely confidential.

I will observe you making some simple movements to help me make a diagnosis. You will usually be asked to undress to your underwear (please bring a pair of shorts if you prefer.) Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult through out the visit

After the observation I will examine areas of your body using my sense of touch, known as palpation, to determine conditions and identify the body’s points of weakness or excessive strain.

To be able to assess you further, I am likely to carry out some special tests, a combination of both orthopedic and osteopathic, or other clinical examinations as appropriate. I might ask you to make some simple movements and stretches in order to be able to observe your posture and mobility. Sometimes the area of pain is not always the source of the pain

Before treatment, I will go through your findings with you and explain to you what I believe could be the cause of your problems. I will also discuss with you what would be the most appropriate treatment plan.

If there are any indications that your condition is unlikely to respond to osteopathic treatment, I might referrer you to a GP or for imaging.

It is not uncommon to feel some discomfort up to 48 hours after treatment as your body adjusts to the subtle changes made, but if you are at all concerned then please do give me a call for advice.
